The Boston Red Sox aim to return to the postseason and pursue another World Series championship. The franchise hasn’t participated in the playoffs since 2021, and the organization’s decision-makers, spearheaded by chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, are actively working to enhance the roster. The team acquired ace Garrett Crochet and signed right-handed starter Walker Buehler to a one-year contract. Currently, Buehler is reportedly attempting to recruit another major free agent: third baseman Alex Bregman.

“I have definitely made a pitch everywhere for him to join us in Boston,” Buehler expressed to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo. “We have been friends for quite some time. We played together on Team USA for a short time during college.”

Bregman would significantly reinforce a squad that could desperately benefit from both his hitting and fielding skills. Rafael Devers continues to play third base, but the team might consider moving him to first base. Triston Casas has not fully developed as anticipated, and Breslow will explore every option to enhance the Sox. Manager Alex Cora could be facing his final season in Boston, particularly if the team fails to reach the postseason once more. Integrating Bregman into this off-season’s additions would undoubtedly enhance the roster. But will it be sufficient to propel them back to October? There’s only one way to discover.

The recent updates will undoubtedly be appreciated by Boston supporters, as Bregman and Buehler have maintained their friendship for a significant period. That bond could be advantageous for the Red Sox. The duo also shares numerous commonalities. Moreover, they co-own a horse, as stated by Cotillo.

“The pair of former All-Stars have collaborated to own ‘March of Time,’ a three-year-old colt that triumphed in a race at Santa Anita in California late last week,” Cotillo reported on Friday. “In recent times, discussions between Buehler and Bregman have extended beyond mere horse chat.”

If this proves true, then another signing could be on the horizon for Boston. Bregman’s style is likely to resonate well at Fenway, as the 30-year-old’s smooth right-handed swing would be advantageous to him. Though he hasn’t reached the heights of his earlier years, he remains one of the top players in the majors presently. Could the third baseman designate Beantown as his next residence? If Buehler and the Boston decision-makers have their way, the former LSU Tiger will don red and white for the foreseeable future.
