Reports suggest that ESPN is preparing for another round of layoffs, having already dismissed some prominent figures this month.
Recently, the network let go of Robert Griffin III and Sam Ponder in a surprising move, leading to immediate changes in some of their programs.
According to a report by Mike McCarthy from Front Office Sports, it is anticipated that several executives will be terminated this week as Burke Magnus, the company’s president of content, is preparing to announce significant modifications on Monday.
The prominent sports network is planning to elevate a number of executives, including a senior figure, to replace Norby Williams, but an equal number of individuals will face dismissal as part of the restructuring.
“ESPN content czar Burke Magnus is set to unveil a comprehensive reorganization strategy which will involve appointing a senior executive to succeed the departed Norby Williamson, alongside the elimination of at least five management roles,” reports McCarthy.
The Departure of Norby Williams from ESPN Raised Questions
Earlier this year, Williams was dismissed by ESPN after serving the network for close to four decades. His departure was linked to public criticism from Pat McAfee.
The former NFL player accused the former ESPN executive of attempting to “sabotage” his show, yet according to insider Richard Deitsch, his ousting was not related to this incident.
Regarding RG3 and Ponder, their exits are believed to have been driven by financial considerations.
In seeking replacements, the network chose Louis Riddick to take over for the former and enlisted Mike Greenberg to succeed the latter.
