Garrett Crochet is gearing up for an amazing holiday season. After being amidst the trade buzz for a considerable time, the standout hurler has finally secured his new spot at the Boston Red Sox. However, this transition wasn’t immediate, as Crochet was searching for a new pitching destination away from the White Sox.
Following the successful trade, the formidable southpaw has openly shared his enthusiasm about meeting the baseball icon from the Red Sox, Pedro Martinez. As he readies himself to take the mound at the illustrious Fenway Park, thoughts of connecting with Martinez linger in his mind.
In a recent virtual meeting, Crochet conveyed the depth of meaning it would hold for him to engage in any conversation with Martinez. “I believe that engaging in a conversation with Pedro would be the ideal scenario for me,” stated the Red Sox pitcher.
Intriguingly enough, beyond his past glory as a star pitcher, Pedro Martinez now serves as a special assistant to the team. Crochet is set to have a fulfilling experience collaborating with the baseball legend.
“I’m going in with modest expectations, looking to casually run into people and focus on putting in the hard work during spring training,” stated Garrett Crochet, recognizing the importance of applying his talents diligently.
Garrett Crochet Must Select A Fresh Jersey Number
Upon his arrival at the Red Sox, Crochet had to switch from his cherished number 45. This number has been retired in honor of Pedro Martinez’s immense contributions to the team. Although it may seem like a minor adjustment for the pitcher hailing from Mississippi, he can find comfort in the fact that Pedro also donned the number 45 jersey throughout his career.
Furthermore, the new Red Sox recruit might need to perform some number crunching while deciding on his new jersey number. With limited viable options, and reminiscing about his youth, all his preferred numbers seem to have been accounted for. Apart from the 45, contemplating number 34 is out of the question as the team retired that jersey in tribute to David Ortiz’s legacy at Fenway Park back in 2017. Similarly, they also retired his No. 14 jersey, which he sported during high school, in honor of Jim Rice.

Nevertheless, with a fresh start, Crochet has settled on a number that will accompany him in his journey with Boston. He has chosen to go with jersey number 35, a number last worn by Richard Bleier in 2023.
