Juan Soto has brought immense joy to the suffering fans of the New York Mets, while also causing heartbreak for other residents of the bustling metropolis.
News broke late on a Sunday evening that Juan Soto had put pen to paper on a massive 15-year contract with the Mets, reportedly valued at $765 million. This deal eclipses the previous record of $700 million set by Shohei Ohtani with the Los Angeles Dodgers the previous winter.
The disappointed and dismayed Yankees fans cannot claim that the Mets shortchanged Soto. According to a report by Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Yankees’ final offer to Soto was a 16-year agreement worth $760 million.
The Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays were all rumored to be vying for Soto’s signature. However, the Mets, considered the frontrunners throughout the negotiations, managed to secure their target with a history-making contract.
Yankees bid $760M for 16 years. Soto is a Met.

The current state of New York baseball has not seen such mixed emotions since the Yankees triumphed over the Mets in the 2000 World Series.
Juan Soto Alters The Entire MLB Scene
The absence of Soto from the Yankees lineup in 2023 resulted in them missing the playoffs, and it is reasonable to expect a similar outcome without him in the upcoming season. On a positive note, the National League runners-up have now acquired a once-in-a-generation talent who could potentially challenge Ohtani’s Dodgers for supremacy in the league over the next decade.
