The race to acquire Shohei Ohtani has come down to two powerhouse clubs that are also strong contenders for the World Series.
An experienced radio personality named Gabriel Morency has disclosed that the finalists competing for the versatile superstar and the 2023 American League MVP are the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It was mentioned that the 29-year-old received an offer from the Chicago Cubs.
Morency boasts a rich history in sports reporting, previously hosting a radio program for the Montreal Expos before their move to Washington in 2005. He is also a regular analyst on ESPN shows and contributes to SportsGrid and Amazon Prime.
As reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN, the Dodgers, Blue Jays, and reigning World Series champions, the Texas Rangers, are all actively pursuing the baseball star.
The Dodgers are seen as frontrunners due to their location in Southern California, consistent status as top competitors for the World Series, and significant financial capabilities to propose a lucrative contract to Ohtani.
Even though the Blue Jays do not have a history of offering large contracts, being owned by Rogers Communications, one of the major companies in Canada, provides them with the financial means to potentially match the offer financially.
During the previous season, Ohtani showcased a batting average of .304 with 44 home runs, 95 RBIs, and an outstanding 1.066 OPS. As a pitcher, he achieved a 10-5 record with a 3.14 ERA and 167 strikeouts across 132 innings pitched.
