The New York Mets are facing an urgent situation. Even though they have greatly invested in Juan Soto, the fanbase desires further action. Pete Alonso is at the forefront of their wish list.
While Mets owner Steve Cohen may still hear the resonating chants of the supporters, he isn’t receiving it from all angles. Recently, during the Mets’ fan fest, Cohen discussed the ongoing discussions surrounding power hitter Pete Alonso. Accompanied by key baseball operations executive David Stearns and manager Carlos Mendoza, the environment was vibrant, with fans chanting Alonso’s name.
“Personally, this has been a draining dialogue and negotiation. Soto was challenging, this is even tougher. We’ve extended a considerable proposal to Pete. I’m not satisfied with the terms being presented back to us. I believe it’s significantly imbalanced against us and I hold strong sentiments about it,” Cohen stated during his session.
“I don’t like the negotiations. I don’t like what’s been presented to us.”

Nevertheless, it’s clear that for a franchise owner, managing all this is complex during free agency. While the Mets are eager to keep Alonso, they are also cautious about jeopardizing their financial strategy. Cohen mentioned that he is still open to the prospect of Alonso returning but underscored the necessity for the team to advance if discussions do not progress.
Pete Alonso’s Former Teammate Comments On Potential Signing With Toronto Blue Jays
Pete Alonso’s ex-teammate, Francisco Lindor, recently shared his perspective on the possibility of Alonso joining the Toronto Blue Jays. After playing several significant seasons together with the Mets, Lindor conveyed a blend of support and understanding regarding Alonso’s potential choice to move on.
In a recent interview, he stressed that while it would be strange not to see Alonso in a Mets uniform, he firmly believes Pete should prioritize what’s best for himself and his family as he considers his options.
“Surprised? Well, I can’t be taken aback by someone’s choice, you know? I mean, it’s his choice. So Pete should make the most of it. He should choose what’s best for him and his family. Pete has been here since I arrived, he has been here before me. So yeah, it would be unusual if he’s elsewhere. Yeah, it would definitely be different. But I think he should take his time. I believe he should make the best choice for himself and not feel pressured into a decision, and I’m confident he will,” he said.
“I think he should take his time. I think he should make the best decision for himself and not feel like he’s rushed into a decision, and I’m sure he will.”

Although he urged Alonso to take his time and avoid feeling rushed into a decision, only time will reveal whether this turns out to be a fortuitous partnership or not.
