At the age of 85, the renowned Atlanta Braves slugger Rico Carty passed away on Saturday. Carty was a prominent and unforgettable Dominican baseball luminary who had a remarkable MLB journey spanning from 1963 to 79.

Following his extraordinary career, Carty was honored with induction into the Atlanta Braves Hall Of Fame in 2023. Carty made his MLB debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 1963, where he showcased his skills before moving on to the Braves. In 1970, Carty achieved All-Star status and was crowned the NL batting champion.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rico Carty belted 204 homers with a batting average of .299. He also notched 890 RBIs. In addition to his time with the Braves, Carty showcased his talent with the Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, Cleveland Indians, and Oakland Athletics.

Primarily a left fielder throughout his career, Carty transitioned to a designated hitter role in his later years. According to reports, he was moved to Atlanta due to health issues related to his intestines.

Rico Carty: A Legacy Worth Recalling

Rico Carty has served as an inspiration for numerous MLB players. He rose to prominence as one of the most renowned Dominican players during his era. His passion for the sport ignited at a young age, with Carty playing for the Dominican National team in 1959.

Having joined the MLB at 20 after signing with the Brewers, Carty faced adversity during his career, battling tuberculosis and missing the entire 1968 season. The year 1977 proved challenging for Carty as his batting average dipped to .280.

Despite his setbacks, Carty emerged stronger and clinched the MLB batting title with a staggering .366 average. He boasted an impressive on-base percentage of .454 and enjoyed a 31-game hitting streak. Carty’s franchise record remained unbeaten until 2011.

Due to short-lived stints with the Blue Jays, Carty was eventually traded to Oakland for two players. Besides his stellar baseball career, the Braves standout was a humble philanthropist, contributing to the development of the Dominican Republic. Carty’s enduring legacy in baseball will be cherished, with his absence deeply felt by his loved ones, friends, and the entire baseball fraternity.

Amidst the MLB offseason activities, trade talks are ablaze as multiple teams vie for top talents like Juan Soto and Alex Bregman.
