Some tragic and heartrending news has surfaced from the realm of baseball.
On Sunday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox shared on social media that former standout hurler Tim Wakefield has tragically passed away at the age of 57 following a valiant battle with brain illness.
Wakefield commenced his MLB journey with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992. Following two campaigns there, he transferred to the Red Sox in 1995. Originating from Melbourne, Florida, he stayed with the squad until 2011, playing a pivotal role in Boston’s World Series triumphs in 2004 (their initial in 86 years) and 2007.
Acknowledge for his myriad contributions outside the ballpark, Wakefield was bestowed with the Roberto Clemente Award in 2010. Over his career, he amassed 200 triumphs and an impressive 2,156 strikeouts.
