On one side, we have the New York Mets investing $765 million in Juan Soto. Contrarily, Scott Boras believes that MLB franchises are not allocating enough funds as they ought to. While it’s challenging to align with either perspective, team spending habits have undoubtedly transformed.
Recently, Boras has publicly condemned teams for their hesitance to invest in free agency despite notable financial growth. At the unveiling press event for Corbin Burnes with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Boras highlighted a concerning pattern. As per his observations, many franchises are raking in more revenue than ever yet are committing significantly fewer resources to player contracts than they did just a few years ago.
“You’re witnessing a plethora of teams that are simply not investing. They’re earning more, but they’re not investing. Their spending is considerably less than it was two or three years ago. There’s a group as large as 10 to 12 teams that find themselves in that situation,” Boras expressed as reported by USA Today.

His observations are not without foundation. He has witnessed the evolution and growth of the league into the contemporary version we now recognize.
“The role of an owner has a different meaning now compared to 10 or 15 years ago, ironically due to the increase in franchise value,” the sports agent remarked.
Nevertheless, Boras’ claims are buttressed by data highlighting the contrast in player investment among teams this offseason. At one stage, six teams had total contract outlays surpassing $100 million, whereas nine franchises had allocated less than $5 million on free agents throughout the offseason.
Scott Boras Has His Say On Arizona Diamondbacks’ Corbin Burnes Contract
The Arizona Diamondbacks recently made headlines by signing Corbin Burnes to a monumental six-year, $210 million contract. Beyond this remarkable deal, this particular transaction drew Scott Boras’s attention toward other franchises.
According to Boras, other franchises need to cease their excuses for not chasing star free agents like Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso. Traditionally, the Diamondbacks have not been viewed as a large-market team. However, their bold willingness to significantly invest in Burnes has prompted Scott to recognize the financial capabilities of smaller markets.
“I don’t want to entertain anticipatory questions about it. You’ll have to ask Pete how he feels and what he intends to do. He’s merely in the marketplace listening at this moment.Teams are now gaining a clearer understanding of their directions, so I believe progress will be made,’’ Boras stated earlier in that same interview.
Corbin Burnes’ agent, Scott Boras, also represents Zac Gallen.
“When I called Zac to inform him I was joining Corbin, I probably have never heard him more thrilled,” Boras shared.

Despite both Bregman and Alonso being highly coveted players, their contracts remain elusive as we near spring training. Alonso, for example, has expressed willingness to negotiate with the New York Mets but has not yet reached a finalized agreement, and it remains uncertain whether the protracted negotiations have harmed the relationship between the two parties.
