Wander Franco has been declared missing in the Dominican Republic, and authorities there have been unsuccessful in locating him.
As per the Listin Diario newspaper, raids were executed on two residences in an attempt to locate the beleaguered MLB player. However, he was not found, and his current location remains undisclosed.
One of the residences is linked to Franco while the other is owned by his mother. Allegedly, the police left their contact details with his wife.
The shortstop has been under scrutiny by both Dominican Republic law enforcement and MLB following allegations of involvement with at least two underage individuals that surfaced during the summer.
Hector Gomez, a Dominican journalist, insinuated that “recent evidence has surfaced in Wander Franco’s case, further entangling him in the allegations of unseemly associations with underage individuals.”
In the wake of the news in August, the Tampa Bay Rays granted Franco a leave of absence, erased his presence from advertisements and promotional materials, and removed his images from their stadium. His merchandise has also been withdrawn from team outlets, and MLB rendered him inactive for the last 42 games of the season.
It is uncertain whether the authorities intended to interrogate Franco or place him in custody.
